Ive been going a little Donkey Kong on the comics recently, so were doing sentence reviews: -- Drama by Raina Telgemeier: Not as special as her other book Smile, but the little thespian in me cant help but appreciate a decent YA story about a high school theatre tech crew. -- Jay-Z: Hip Hop Icon by Jessica Gunderson and Pat Kinsella: This may be the worst thing I have ever read. -- Akira vol 1 by Katsuhiro Otomo: I am not really into manga but I see why this story is so hyped up because I am pretty much captivated. -- Stitches by David Small: There are a lot of icky feels in those pencil strokes. -- Arkham Asylum by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean: This might be my third favorite Batman story behind Year One and The Killing Joke. -- Bluffton by Matt Phelan: It was just aight but it was neat to learn a little about Buster Keatons childhood. -- Mouse Guard: Fall 1152 by David Petersen: A solid yet simple story + pretty pictures + archetypal mice protagonists = recipe for success every time it seems. -- Around the World by Matt Phelan: In the not-so-likely scenario that I ever end up teaching an elementary history class, I could see myself using this in the classroom maybe. -- Pride of Baghdad by Brian K Vaughan: By-the-book script riding + an interesting real world premise +archetypal cat protagonists = whats not to like? -- Mother, Come Home by Paul Hornschemeier: The excellent pacing prevented this soul crushing story from making me put the book down and curl into a ball. -- The Lost Boy by Greg Ruth: Perhaps the most beautiful treatment of an entirely mediocre YA story ever. -- Promethea book 1 by Alan Moore, J.H. Williams III and Mick Gray: Alan Moore proves it aint that damn hard to write a bad ass woman protagonist. -- Boxers & Saints by Gene Luen Yang: Man, I miiiiiiiight like this better than American Born Chinese. -- Cardboard by Doug TenNapel: Having your graphic novel published by Scholastic means it is going to at least be at a certain level of whack, doesnt it? -- Level Up by Gene Luen Yang and Thien Pham: This is by far my least favorite Gene Yang story Ive read, but considering the standard that doesnt mean this story is half bad. -- Black Orchid by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean: I think I need to read this about 5 more times to truly appreciate how pretty this pretty is pretty.
