Ive been reading different opinions on the meaning behind the classic song Sound of Silence by, Simon & Garfunkel .. In an interview with Paul Simon, he said that the concept of the song wasnt something that I was experiencing at some deep, profound level—nobodys listening to me, nobodys listening to anyone—it was a post-adolescent angst, but it had some level of truth to it and it resonated with millions of people. People read more into things then need be -and- things are not always as they seem to be (I have to remind myself of this all the time). In an interesting comment under one of the many Youtube videos of the song, by a Mike Hill, he relates the song to the dehumanising and isolating effect of technology (although the song came out in 1967) like with our obsession with facebook, with what he called (un-)social media sites, that are talking without speaking, hearing without listening, the words of an objector ignored and echoed in the wells (endless depths) of silence and people bowed and prayed to the neon god (brightly lit screen) they made. Interesting to think about, but what really matters is the song is lovely to listen to!!! :O) youtube/watch?v=qn0QBXMYXsM
