Ive been ridiculed by many members on here for daring to compare the police to a hostile invading force. Now, lets leave aside the usual case, where the cops are part of the community and said community contains a range of views regarding their activities. Lets look at a particularly extreme example of this - a town with a culture diametrically opposed to the policy that is being enforced by a largely external organisation. Is it reasonable to assess this situation as morally equivalent to a community facing invasion and occupation by a hostile force? If not, why? If so, where and why do the rules of engagement differ, if at all?
