Ive been seeing alot lately about promoting cycling for kids lately...or getting kids off the couch programs. I think theyre all great ideas...heres how you do it. Theres always a big push for kids in cycling that never seems to come through. Its because kids want to ride fast, jump, get crazy or do something adventurous. I know many in the road and mtn. bike community dont consider bmx a part of cycling or dont care for it. But know this...USA BMX is sanctioned by the US Cycling Association. BMX is also an olympic sport. Also many pro mountain and road bike legends started their careers in bmx. Pros like Lance Armstrong, Myles Rockwell, Tinker Juarez, Mike King, and Bryan Lopes. Unfortunately in our area many of the shops and clubs do not promote bmx because there is no money or profit gained from it or the sales of bmx products. So now im trying to educate and promote the sport to the rest of the cycling community. Take your kids to check out Tornado Alley BMX. They also hold Strider/balance bike races for the litlle ones not quite ready to come off the training wheels.
