Ive been suffering with PTSD from EMS with the FDNY for quite some time...ended up quitting - running away across the country - had no support from my EMS family - minus two awesome folk Jennifer and Jim. I ended up having substance abuse issues - and today I graduated from a Behavioral Health IOP and am 37 days sober. Seeing this makes me so glad that the next generation of EMS will hopefully recognize the importance of mental health and our repeated exposures to trauma and the end of life, perhaps even prevent my story from becoming even more common.
