Ive been thinking about this ALS ice bucket phenomenon since I first noticed it going on. Here are my thoughts. I believe that there is a deep theological concept at work here. That being the doctrine of the total depravity of man. Man by nature is sinful, he is self centered and corrupt, he typically will not do anything that he does not benefit by in someway. (Romans 3:10-18). Oh, there is the rare man compelled by the Holy Spirit to do a good deed towards his neighbor, that know one knows about, nor is he even concerned with it increasing his favor before God, but I think this is rare. This challenge incredibly uses mans sin nature to get him to do what he otherwise would not do. Am I saying that it is sinful to do the ice bucket challenge, not at all. But what I am saying is that man is sinful, the ice bucket challenge works because of this and is therefore, ingenious.
