Ive been thinking back to the tornado 40 years ago today. I remember that we had a substitute teacher that day at school and before class was dismissed she told us something bad was going to happen that day and she wanted each of us to go straight home and obey our parents and stay indoors. I remember watching my mom staring out the kitchen window watching the sky and her telling my sisters and I to go sit in the hallway. I held on tight to my baby doll. I can still hear the sound of the tornado, it sounded like a steam engine barreling through our home. Then afterward we went walking as a family that evening to survey our surroundings and saw buildings in North Madison smashed and one side of our church blown away. The following Sunday we still had church though, it didnt keep us from our Sunday service.
