Ive been trying to articulate exactly how I feel with todays news about the AAC portion of TLAC closing. There are currently 59 dogs housed there and the great majority are Long Stays. To compound the issue AAC will no longer allow APA to pull dogs to the TLAC location. Simply.....my heart hurts. I wont be able to take the Long Stays to the Town Lake Trail, or downtown, or just for a snuggle on the baseball bleachers. But.....thats me being selfish. What is really means is that there are a lot of great dogs that are going to die in Austin.....PERIOD. Ive heard a number of times they they dont kill for space and it is complete BS. The shelter cannot afford to lose 60 kennels and we sure as hell cant afford to lose APA pulling dogs to TLAC. I dont want to see No Kill come to an end in Austin but at this point it seems almost inevitable. We are getting very limited information from AAC on whats going on, but I have been told the dogs at TLAC will likely be sent back to main campus before the end of the weekend. I have no idea what they plan to do with 59 dogs since they are already at negative kennel space. Austin Humane Society is pulling dogs but it sounds like they are only pulling at the Levander Loop location. WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you have had your eye on one of the Long Stays at TLAC or you know someone looking for a large dogs.....PLEASE tell them to come to TLAC and adopt or foster.
