Ive been watching a very interesting, slightly drawn out, documentary on Hell. I wasnt aware Jesus went to Hell after his crucifixion for three days to retrieve a handful of older faithful spirits who deserved salvation. The show suggests the author/s of the bible were trying to trump all other stories of Hell bound soul rescuers who all met with defeat. As for me, I get hung up on the number 3 paradigm from that era. Three is used 467 times in the bible. The Trinity, time line of the Christs death to resurrection, the twenty-seven books in the New Testament 3x3x3, the three present to witness the transfiguration of Jesus upon a mountain top and least I mention, and recently spoken about during a past service by Krums First United Methodist (plug) new pastor, Pastor Jessica, the three levels of grace: prevenient, sanctifying and justifying. Concerning the bible, the literature seems very cryptic. Deciphering the english text back to Greek, then back to Hebrew is simply impossible for me. Why bother reading it? Mostly, I dont. The stories and lessons from days of long ago are still being lived out today. Greed, gluttony and the five other deadly sins are alive and well today, just as they were back then. Tangent, sorry. Hell--the absence of God. Pain, suffering, torture, fire and brimstone...irrelevant. Hell is simply the absence of God. Its just that simple. Artist depictions of gruesome and frightening images is of our fleshly world; human imagination. An eternity of Hell, as we know it, would be far better than an eternity without Gods presence. Sheesh, I want to continue this train of tonight but I have to play plumber as the kitchen sink is angry and needs help.
