Ive commented before, but Ill say it again. Whilst living in Utah in the 80s, I used to make the SLC/LA run a lot and consistently, the cars camped in the left lane had UT plates while the CA drivers were much more knowledgeable. In the 90s, UT passed a law that you couldnt be passed on the right, no matter what speed you were going, while CA demographic significantly changed. When I moved to LA in 98 and was doing the same run in reverse, the driving patterns had also completely reversed, and the CA drivers were the ones always parked in the left lane. Now, I ride to work and wish I had a go pro on my helmet to show you why the freeways back up. I come up on these clusters of cars where nobody can move or get through, except for me on my bike, because Im quicker and smaller. Without fail, the problem is some idiot up ahead in the left lane with nobody in front of him doing about the speed limit or less, and nary a clue that he has a mile of cars stuck behind him, since his driving has turned a four-lane highway into a one-lane road. Billions of taxpayer dollars going for naught due to stupidity....
