Ive found myself in many discussions, especially in these last two weeks, where I feel foolish about thinking the world shifting on any scale for the greater good is a possibility. Conversations about issues Im really passionate about - global warming, recycling, woman-on-woman warfare, racism, derogatory language - that are really interesting, but wherein I encounter other people who dont think that even pushing for small changes or having hope is worth it. In other words, If other people arent going to change, why should I? Whats the point? What difference will my actions make if there are other factors in the world working against me? It feels funny to be feeling hopeless about thinking hopefully. Im curious about what other people think about it. Im curious to find out from people who do or have at times felt hopeless about similar things. Am I too idealistic? Are you also idealistic, hoping that your choices on a personal level (IE: what you eat, where it comes from; what words you use and how you choose to react to ones you dont like; why you compost; what causes you continue to support) will help even minutely?
