Ive got hundreds of messages over the last week demanding to know what the hell Im waiting on and why I havent yet penned a post on the Presidents plan for Syria/Iraq/ISIS/ISIL/etc. What am I waiting on? Today, folks, I was waiting for today. I was waiting for the House vote. Until that, it was all just razzle-dazzle and noise. I wanted to see what the delta was between the presidents speech last week announcing military involvement in this conflict - followed by a week of punditry and congressional chest beating, teeth gnashing, dick waggling, ass slapping, and Man, if only I was in charge from conservatives on the Hill - and the actual vote in congress. I wanted to see what the presidents critics were actually willing to go on record with. I suspected that when it came right down to it, theyd give the president permission to execute the plan he announced last week. And they did. Because even though theyve been calling for outright invasion, and even though certain of their ilk have boldly stated that if we dont invade in force right now, then the terrorists will conquer America in short order and kill us all, they dont actually mean it. Theyre full of shit and, whats more, they know it. Sure, if they could hang a thousand dead American soldiers around Obamas neck, theyd be all for it and dont you think for one goddamned second they wouldnt. The lives of Americas military are nothing but tokens on the gameboard to these assclowns. Look at the reality TV show they turned Benghazi into and tell me Im wrong. Go on, its been a long exhausting day and I could use the laugh. But to go on record THEMSELVES? Go on record, publicly declaring yet another war? To take actual responsibility for it? Not a chance, not a month before the election, no sir. And make no mistake, it WOULD be war. If you put combat troops on the ground, its war. We would have to invade, secure a beachhead, topple the government, occupy the country, and then turn our attention to the Islamic State. Why? Because neither Iraq nor Syria will authorize American combat forces on their soil. So if we go in, its either in a supporting/training role or its as invaders. Both Iraq and Syrias governments have made that clear, Iraq again this morning. So, which member of congress is willing to authorize war, and do it on the record? A month before the mid-terms? Which ones are willing to sign their names to more dead American soldiers? Right. Theyll rant and rave on Fox News, but when it comes right down to it, they dont have the guts to put their money where their hypocritical sneering mouths are. They want to get reelected far too bad for that. There will be a full essay on Stonekettle Station regarding this subject within the next few days. Until then, you may discuss it here.
