Ive got to share this testimony. Last night I spoke at the Union Rescue Mission, which always seems to create a struggle within me concerning the question What am I doing here? I live in a different world. The ministry God has me working daily doesnt equip me with a relevant message for those nice guys there. Plus, after I speak, theres no mechanism in place for building a relationship or discipleship. They are out the door & gone the next morning. Still, Ive got a calling, and I go with the confidence that we are all living with the human condition so at least in that realm I can speak. Last night those guys really responded to the message. They were engaged and talking back to me. At the end a crippled guy allowed me into his life for a moment to pray for his mother and sister in CA who were caught in the recent earthquake. Then another man stuck around and brought a tremendous grace to me. He wanted to give me some pointers on speaking to the men there. He seemed very educated, perceptive, and experienced in communication. I was amazed at the gift of peace his words brought to me about how to talk to them. He was complimentary about the subject matter, and that they could tell I was sincere. He said that some things guys talk to them about are not received well because it comes across as someone telling them to just accept their circumstances. And this comes across as a command from God delivered by a man who doesnt understand them. This wasnt my message, nor did I think I made this point, but he felt they perceived its his way because I was speaking in that realm of subject matter. So I learned about what to be VERY clear about and that these guys really are paying attention. Two things I truly needed last night.
