Ive had an interesting day, well, an interesting afternoon. My kids ride the bus in the afternoon to the presbyterian child care center in Blackshear. Ethan usually doesnt get there until after 4:00, but before 4:30. So I get there at 4:35 this afternoon and the bus still hasnt gotten there. No big deal, I get Ashleigh loaded up and stand out in the parking lot talking to all the employees and kids that are on the playground, and wait in the bus. About 4:45 bus 35 comes flying (I mean FLYING, extremely too fast) down church street, but doesnt pull into the parking lot. About two minutes later here comes Ethan and another middle Schooler that also goes to daycare. They are both hot, red faced, sweaty, and breathing hard. My first thought was that he just dropped them off at the stop sign, which bothered me, but didnt really cause too much concern since all they would have had to do was cross the street to the church. But this was not the case at all. In fact the normal bus driver was off today and they had a sub (dont know his name) he wasnt used to the route and obviously wasnt using the map that the bus barn swears he had. According to Ethan, the bus driver was very mean and rude to all the riders and told the several times to shut up, and when a high schooler tried to walk to the front in an attempt to offer assistance by telling the driver how the route usually runs and where the stops are and who gets off where, the bus driver sees him walking down the aisle and immediately slams on the breaks causing everyone to be slammed forward. Then the bus driver missed the stop. He dropped several kids off in the park, not where they were supposed to be let out. Ethan asked when he was going back by the church, the driver told him they had already went by there and they werent going back!!! Then the bus driver stopped at the new library by the old Blackshear high school, asked them if they were getting off knowing that they were supposed to go to the daycare!!!! He allowed two 11 year olds get off of his bus knowing they would have to walk ALONE all the way to the daycare! They are 11, they arent even old enough to legally stay in their own home alone! I was very upset to say the least, and the other girls was equally upset and Im positive that her father was livid. Anything could have happened while they were walking, any one could have grabbed them and by the time we realized they were missing they could have been long gone. I called the bus barn to complain, after I told the man what happened, and everything the Ethan and Rebecca had told us that happened on the bus, and let him know that I was upset, he said that he was sorry, that he had given the man a map of the route but he apparently wasnt following the directions. No, aaparently not, but I would have been fine if he had just driven the route out of order, or had just been late, but what he did was completely unacceptable. I told the bus barn man that I hoped that this man wouldnt be back driving my sons bus, or any bus again for that matter, and he informed me that he would in fact be back driving that route on Monday, and that the regular bus driver would be back on Tuesday. THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. If I intentionally put someone in danger at work I have no doubt that I would lose my job in the spot. I have no doubt that being a bus driver is hard, kids can be brats in the bus, I know this, but other wise its pretty simple, you get the kids safely to their destination, you dont put kids out across town for where they are supposed to be. I tried to call the BOE, but no one was there that late. I will definitely be on the phone with someone first thing Monday morning! And I also told both of these children that under no circumstances are they to get off the bus anywhere besides the day care, I dont care what the driver says, I will gladly go pick them up from the bus barn if thats the case. Day 8: Im thank God that my child made it safely!
