Ive had several people write me to ask my thoughts about the risk of an Ebola outbreak in the US. So, heres a quiz to see if youre at risk of being infected with Ebola. 1) Have you recently been in close contact with a person who has a confirmed Ebola diagnosis while they were symptomatic or after they had died? 2) If yes, did you directly contact his/her vomit, feces, urine, blood, semen, breastmilk, sweat or saliva? Quiz Result: You are NOT at risk of being infected with Ebola (and, almost certainly, neither is anyone you know). The only cases (so far) of Ebola transmission in the US involve health care workers who were directly caring for a man who was dying of Ebola at one hospital, which very likely did not follow the recommended protocols for containing Ebola transmission. Multiple cases have been treated in highly-prepared health facilities in Atlanta and Nebraska without infecting any health care workers.
