Ive held off writing about the two wonderful harp-guitars sent to Cree Studios by Emerald Guitars in Ireland simply because I have to play one enough to have something to say. To begin , this is a very different instrument from guitar...similar...like a second cousin.....but the increased interior air volume of the Harp arm along with the nature of having six bass strings creates a different playing pattern.....I completely understand why Michael Hedges played the way he did......tapping the bass strings with the thumb makes more sense than plucking the string....at the moment.....then there is s sympathetic tone that follows the guitar playing. Wondrous! Fascinating.....the implications for stringed instruments in my vision has changed from this experience with this instrument. Were not even close to exploring the possibilities and potentials involved here. Its and entirely new continent discovered. Its like walking out of a cave to see a completely new vista....a new country.
