Ive just got a bike, havent ridden one in many years! Am enjoying getting used to riding again!! If you are a bit more confident with your bike, why not go on a guided bike ride!! From LCC Press Office:- Local guided cycle rides CYCLISTS of all abilities are being invited to join free local guided rides over the summer and bag some exclusive gifts. Until August 3, anyone who completes two or more Sky Ride Local guided rides in Leicester can pick up rewards including British Cycling neck buffs and water bottles. The gifts are being offered to celebrate the recent success of the Tour de France starting on home soil this year. Participants in the guided rides can also enter a prize draw to win a VIP Tour of Britain cycling experience in September. The rides are organised by Sky Ride Local and British Cycling in partnership with Leicester City Council. They’re led by friendly British Cycling ride leaders along scenic, planned routes. Participants can choose from three levels of difficulty – easygoing, steady or challenging. Easygoing rides are ideal for people who have not cycled for a while and want to get back in the saddle. They’re great for people of all ages and abilities, and take place on largely traffic-free routes. Steady rides are for fairly confident riders looking to broaden their horizons, taking place on quiet roads, possibly with some modest hills. Challenging rides are for confident riders, covering some distance and with some hills along the way. Among the rides on offer are the Amigos King’s Lock easygoing ride, on Sunday 27 July, which starts at Leicester’s Bike Park, in Town Hall Square, at 2pm. It follows the Great Central Way along to the King’s Lock tearooms, in Aylestone. On 20 July, there’s a steady West End Tour ride – a clever route that stays within Leicesters urban area yet manages to pack in miles of green, traffic-free riding. It also starts at 2pm from the Bike Park. On 27 July, a challenging ride takes in Leicester’s ‘lost villages’ and starts from Victoria Park Pavilion café at 10am. It’s a circular 23-mile ride featuring a visit to one of the best-preserved medieval village sites in the country. The Sky Ride Local rides are part of a summer of cycling activity in the city oragnised by the city council, Sky Ride and British Cycling. These events culminate in the Ride Leicester Festival, from 17-24 August – which includes the Castle Classic cycle race on 17th August and the Sky Ride on 24th August.
