Ive just had somebody commission a portrait from me and then back out when I said that it was digital art, saying that they wanted a proper portrait, not a photo edit!!! This is the fourth in less than two weeks. Just because I use a computer not a pencil doesnt mean that it isnt a proper portrait. I dont just press a button and the computer does it for me (unlike some). I think the bit that confuses me the most is that five minutes earlier theyll say that they really like my work and then all of a sudden its not good enough. Each portrait takes a minimum of eight hours and Ill happily show anybody the work that goes into their portrait. Attached to this are stage by stage versions of the latest portrait that Im doing, just to show that. Now for the flip side of my rant. There are too many people out their trying to sell very quick photo edits for stupid amounts of money and this is why people are put off proper digital art. So please, if youre spending a decent amount of money on a piece of digital art, ask the artist to show you examples of their work in various stages, just so that you can make sure that youre not paying for ten hours work, when it takes them ten minutes to complete. Rant over!!!
