Ive mentioned this recipe to some of our members, and thought I would post it up here for everyone. This is a Home brew Honey Bee Healthy Recipe. HBH is a mixture you can buy to add to your sugar syrup that is good for the bees, and they really love it. Because of Robbing you should be really be careful if you have a few hives around and try to feed this in a boardman feeder or jar feeder some call it. This time of year especially, be very careful using this bees go nuts over this stuff. Feeders inside the hives or hive top feeders are pretty safe. open feeding would be fine also as long as you have the feeder a good distance from the hive locations. 5 cups water 2.5 pound of sugar 1/8 tsp of Lecithin Granules 15 drops of Lemongrass oil 15 drops of Spearmint oil Ive figured out the best way to dissolve the granules is to get the water almost boiling then put it in a blender and add the granules and kick the blender on. Then add the spearmint and lemongrass to it when it cools down some. I usually add the oils when the mix is still warm. I will only use a portion of the water for this. The rest of the water from the five cups total I dissolve the sugar in over heat on the stove. Then when its all cooled down to where its still warm. I will combine it all in the blender. Keep this mixture in the fridge. It is concentrated you will only add a tsp of the mixture to a quart of syrup when you feed your bees. It is important that you DO NOT feed the HBH concentrate to your bees straight. This HBH will also prevent mold in your syrup and make it keep longer. It has a real nice scent to it and the bees love it. Its also good for them.
