Ive probably posted this picture a dozen times, but it never gets old. Growing up, I always knew Pappy was drafted into WWII but never knew any of his stories. He didnt talk about it. One, he was humble, but on the other hand he couldnt talk about it. Memorial Day 2001, we presented him with his war medals that never made it home after he was discharged, my uncle Mark Scott tracked them down after all those years. I remember being so excited to see his reaction, thinking he would be thrilled. It was such an eye opener to see the man who I believed had a backbone like a steel rod, uncontrollably weep like a child when he saw those medals. PTSD was very real and the closest thing he got to help was a pamphlet.. Literally. Our family always knew he recorded audiotapes of himself in private, so that we could listen to what he went through after he was gone. We found the tapes the last few months he was alive. I cannot imagine what it was like for him and I am positive there were many moments where he was sure he would not make it home. Blessed beyond measure to have known this man and to be a part of his legacy. ❤️💙
