Ive received quite a few texts and e-mails about the House Martin - TopicsExpress

Ive received quite a few texts and e-mails about the House Martin chicks we rescued earlier on in the year. Well there is good news and bad news. Unfortunately the weaker, smaller one of the two didnt quite make it. I think his left side may have been damaged when he initially fell from the nest as a tiny chick. He grew up with a bit of a limp and the bone structure of the wing didnt quite form properly. He stopped eating and died whilst we were in Australia. The great news however is that the stronger one made it and was winging it around in circles in my moms spare bedroom whilst we were away. He would even fly up and perch on her shoulder to be fed. This bird was then released successfully at Alvecote Pools. He zoomed straight up in the air calling and was immediately joined by a few others of his species as they whirled around. My mom said it was all very emotional..... and yes, she cried both for sadness and for joy during the short time she had them. Big thanks to mom and Nick for looking after them for the final leg and for putting up with the mess and their constant food requirements. I know pulling the heads off live mealworms must not have been easy for you both! You did a great job.
