Ive seen a lot of metal fail in lots of different ways, but this one is a first. After thorough examination my conclusion is that it was caused by improper annealing or heat treating prior to, (or after, respectively,) formingshaping the tube, and then welding it. The entire length of top of the chainstay has serous paint crazing, too. It has nothing to do with the kickstand believe it or not. Hemispherical rupture in a compound bend.-thats my forensic diagnosis, but feel free to weigh in!
