Ive seen a lot of people who are bothered by Ice Bucket Challenge - TopicsExpress

Ive seen a lot of people who are bothered by Ice Bucket Challenge and honestly I dont understand it. Every disease has a gimmick to get people involved & aware: Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics, Susan G Komen walk for a cure (breast cancer), Red Heart Pins for Heart Association,Jimmy Fund Telethons for cancer... Those are all accepted and applauded why is ALS ice bucket challenge different? It achieved its goal, and then some, to raise awareness & money for research for a horrible disease. I dont think its a popularity contest but I do believe as Americans we need things shoved in our faces to deal with them. If it doesnt affect you personally its usually not on your radar. (A little sad, but true) how many people gave ALS a second thought before this challenge? It has caused people to do research on the topic, the organization, and also donate funds. There are those who have done the challenge so they are part of the craze sweeping the nation but there are many many more that have used this as a call to action. I dont see anyone griping about the coverage or donations any other organization receives from an event or fundraising campaign. Is it because people think that dumping ice over your head is silly that they voice displeasure? I think a lot of people have a problem with the challenge itself not its premise but you cant just have another walk to support ALS because it does nothing to separate you from the others. There is only so much money donated a year and so many causes, diseases, & events to support. Ok my rant is done...*stepping off soap box now*
