Ive seen a ton of people dumping ice water on their heads to bring awareness and raise money for ALS. I get it...thats great! My uncle Larue died from ALS when I was a kid. So, I applaud you for your efforts. And Ive watched some really funny tributes to Robin Williams. He was and is a staple in my home. Im sad...and I miss the comic genius. But neither of those things make us uncomfortable, so its easy to share those things on facebook. But, right now all over the world Christians are being forced from their homes, sold into slavery, beheaded, cut into pieces, raped, and much more, simply because they love Jesus...the very same Jesus that we so freely love here in the US. And that makes us uncomfortable. Its uncomfortable to hear, read, or see pictures of persecution. Its uncomfortable to read the title Christian children beheaded... So we dont post about it. We might offend. Our friends dont want to see that. People might unfollow us. Its a cause that is easier to ignore. After all its miles away...worlds away. So instead we cringe when we pass an article or video about it on our newsfeed and keep on going. Ive struggled with what I can do for those specifically being persecuted in Iraq right now. I dont know how to pray for them because its so far out of the spectrum of my reality. I dont know where to give my money. I dont know who to blame or who to ask to help them. But Im slowly figuring it out. This Sunday at Jacksonville Worship Center I will be sharing briefly about how to help the Iraqi Christians that are being persecuted. Ive come up with ways to pray for those being persecuted, places to safely give financially towards the direct help of the displaced Iraqi Christians, and who/how to contact in congress to pressure our government for further action. I cannot wait to share and empower other Christians that want to take action.
