Ive seen many operas, I own a bunch on DVD, and I (and Ted) have even walked-out during one opera performance (Blitzstens Regina, I think)... I like John Adams work (although hes not on my like list), I have a few of his works on my regular playlist... I wonder what I would have thought about the Mets performance of Klinghoffer? I like the music, but the libretto seems odd and some of the visuals (From Woolcocks video) seem troubling in juxtaposition. I think my big concern could be summed up in this quote from Woolcock - is she optimistic or blissfully naive: “I find it kind of astounding that anyone would interpret [Death of Klinghoffer] like that. And I would never have filmed it if I thought it was anti-Semitic. If the opera is about anything, it’s that we have to forgive the unforgivable. Otherwise, we’re lost as a species.” Heres a commercial for it (presumably the Met would want me to show this): youtu.be/FtnXSra0ZYQ
