Ive seen people on here who keep asking for any good books to learning Mandarin, and as i am myself starting out and have done research into this i am taking it upon my self to recommend some ( However not all of these i have yet used myself). If people cant afford books i have a few alternatives. 1) Complete Mandarin Chinese by the Teach yourself Series. This includes CDs and a book from the Teach yourself series which is widely used and recommended by many language users. This should teach complete Chinese. This can be between £10- £17. 2) Chinese Made Easy Textbook: Level 1 (Simplified Characters) by Yamin Ma Seems to be easy way to start for complete beginners. 3) Collins Chinese Mandarin dictionary- By Collins With a dictionary there is really no way to go wrong. It includes all words and may even explain how it is used ~( however i would not use a dictionary alone). 4) Childrens Books Childrens books are a great way to learn a language i start with books such as First thousand words in Chinese and this book is by Usbourne and can be about £5. Or My first Mandarin Phrasebook by Jil Kaltz. Also about £5. Also, any general childrens reading book in Mandarin if you can find any. ( Which i do find quite difficult to do) 5) Apps If you can not afford any books you could always use apps to read such as one i have heard of called Teaching Panda which is free for download and includes Childrens stories. However i would not just use this alone. 6) Youtube Simply typing in how to i love you in mandarin etc into youtube can come up with great little Gems which teach you online for free such as CultureAlley (https://youtube/watch?v=8TTijX0JV_0&list=PL80Flen6gkH9IGSNAAjtwvQ0xnhd-YGjq) , or a journey to china by Dallas schools (https://youtube/watch?v=9Yv51y9I0JU) 7) The Internet yoyochinese is something that i have recently found and provides you with audio, a learning schedule and videos to try and make it easier for you to learn mandarin and the concepts within it. But if you were to do a google search of learn mandarin online there would be a lot of suggestions. I hope that these may help. If anyone has any that they have found were helpful, then feel free to comment with it. Or if anyone has any feedback, as im not a professional at this im just giving some helpful tips, then that would be fine- i hope there may be some people that find this useful.
