Ive seen the reports about Trey Gowdy being named Chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi. However, I noticed on Gretas show and a couple of other places Trey has been asked about it and would not confirm the story. My guess is that he is simply following protocol and waiting for Speaker Boehner to make the official announcement. I was out yesterday and was unable to catch the news and havent checked any news this morning. So if in the last 36 hours there has been an official announcement let me know. I was in law school with Trey, he was a couple years ahead of me and was not a personal friend, but he was a BULLDOG then and is a BULLDOG now. He was inducted into the Wig & Robe Society in law school for academic excellence. No small honor. As is well known to most he then spent 16 years as a state & federal prosecutor. I thought he lost one case. But in rechecking, it turns out he never in 16 years lost a single case. Not one. There is an issue I havent seen touched on, but I think it is important because it goes to his character and his priorities. Many prosecutors spend a few years prosecuting cases for the state or federal Government then switch over to private practice representing the accused. Thats where the big money is, private practice. If youre good, you can get rich. But Trey stayed a prosecutor his entire career. 16 years getting paid according to the state and federal pay grades. His concern was not for money but for Justice. Lastly, if he is appointed Chairman of the Committee, he will have Subpoena Power There is no greater tool to a lawyer than the Power to Subpoena people and documents. You put that power in the hands of a brilliant prosecutor and the sky is the limit. Being a select committee, his subpoena power will not be restricted to documents and people only related to the jurisdiction of a single committee. As a select committee his subpoena power will have widespread jurisdiction that will follow wherever there are persons and documents the evident may point to. I say go ahead and make it official and turn this BULLDOG loose.
