Ive spent a bit of time learning my way around the Central Valley - TopicsExpress

Ive spent a bit of time learning my way around the Central Valley of California. It shouldnt really be very hard: its a big, flat space, so the roads go N/S or E/W. Memorize which is which, and youre set! Well, theres a major diagonal road, Santa Fe, that is along (what I assume to be) the Santa Fe Railroad. There are a couple of complications. I was heading to an address on Tully Road. Oh! That crosses Whitmore up there. Ill just go there, and take Tully south until I find the address. ... A couple of miles down Tully, it dead ends at a cross street. Ya, it starts again a couple miles over yonder, but Im not sure where. I think Tully is secret morse code. Theres prolly some interesting history there: Oh Hell No, you are NOT building a road cross my property! ** Youve gotta know which roads are reliable. The second issue is that some of the towns grew up along the railway. Those folks, naturally, built their roads with reference to the (diagonal) railroad. Thus, theres the weird area around the old towns where the N/S, E/W grid tries to line up with old town. I just avoid those.
