Ive spent the day reading and grading papers from my doctoral students in Cohorts 11 and 12 (Semiotics and Future Studies), and am so pleased at their progress. They have all come so far in one or two years of graduate study. I have a secret mission in life: to raise up a mafia of the metaphor. I call it my mafioso mission. The godfather of the metaphor mafia is C. S. Lewis, who didn’t start with words for the tales of Narnia. He started with images, and then trusted the words to come. My semiotics students are being trained to be a mafia of the metaphor with an avowed mission: infiltrate to filtrate the water and blood of Christbody communities.
