Ive started incorporating a new exercise into my leg workouts, the barbell step up. Its a great alternative to squats as it pretty much hits all the same muscle groups, but you dont need as much weight purely because you are independently lifting the weight with one leg at a time. Doing this puts a lot of emphasis on balance, which then brings in a lot of stabilising muscles to keep your body in control whilst performing the movement. The main muscles it targets are the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and core. So not only is it a great way to build power and strength in your legs for the lads, but also a fantastic exercise to be used for the girls looking to tighten up those legs, bums, and tums! It can also be performed holding dumbbells by your side. This just takes away the difficulty of balancing due to the weight distributed differently to the bar. I would recommend mastering it with them first before moving onto the barbell. #jvfitness #legs #stepups
