Ive stopped believing that these kinds of pictures are going to change the world, though I may have felt that at some earlier, more idealistic, point in my career. I still believe, however, that documentation has an inherent value, and that, yes, some good can come of it. Were living in a moment of instant information, of information as a kind of currency. unfortunately, human tragedies that unfold in obscurity or secret are even less likely to reach any kind of resolution. When I returned to NY, there was very little interest in photographs of the refugees. Publications were mostly interested in the America part of it all, which I didnt concentrate on so much.
