Ive taken some pictures of several photographs that were taken during the five years, that I directed plays/musicals at Sullivan High School. I also took several pictures of the first Sullivan High School yearbook from 1916. Ill try to upload the pictures to several different posts and attempt to put them into related categories. Ill also upload the pictures of the freshman students from the 1917 yearbook, who were in the eighth grade in 1916. This group of students were pictured as freshman in the 1917 yearbook. There are lists of students enrolled from 1882 to 1915. Following the names of these students, is information about where they were living in 1916, and a few were identified as deceased. The number of students enrolled at Sullivan High School during the earlier years is relatively small and increases in number through the years. This observation is probably due to the educational system at that time. I grew up in the country, and there were several school houses, that were located about one mile apart throughout the county and rural areas. Our family farm was located about 1/4 mile north of the Sullivan airport. The farm was at the northeast corner of the crossroads. One of the country school houses was located on this corner of the family farm. Along with the school house, there was a brick-lined dug well. Years later, the school house had been torn down, but I continued to use the well to water my Angus cattle. Many young people at the time didnt continue their education beyond the eighth grade, including my parents, who were born in 1892 and 1900. Ill try to attach the initial six pages to the current post. Pictures from the 1917 yearbook will be posted at some point.
