Ive watched a few WWII movies over the years but havent seen this one... flipping thru channels and I stop at The Story of G.I. Joe. Thinking of my dad as I watch as Italy is where he would have been at the young age of 18/19. The movie: The Story of G.I. Joe, also credited in prints as Ernie Pyles Story of G.I. Joe, is a 1945 American war film directed by William Wellman, starring Burgess Meredith and Robert Mitchum. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Mitchums only nomination for Best Supporting Actor. This was the film that established him as one of the worlds biggest movie stars. Then I find the whole movie on YouTube..Nick Geisen, this would be the war era of your grandfather.
