I’m a co-organizer for the BC Expansion Committee of the Peoples - TopicsExpress

I’m a co-organizer for the BC Expansion Committee of the Peoples Social Forum and working to mobilize 20-30 members for the Peoples Social Forum - Forum social des peuples in Ottawa this summer. The Peoples Social Forum will be taking place in Ottawa from August 21 - 24 and promises to be an unprecedented convergence of social movements from across Canada. The labour movement will feature prominently at the forum, with major panels being planned to highlight labour specific issues, including a large panel on public services. Our objectives are to advance and continue the work of changing our political and social ecology into a healthy and sustainable one through ongoing public engagement events like the Peoples’ Social Forum Assembly on Climate and Oil & Gas in BC we hosted last April. The Peoples Social Forum will be an historic opportunity to come together, share experiences, strategize and build practical alliances and coalitions. In order to make this possible, various unions from across Canada have been providing funding for their union activists (as well as solidarity funding for community activists) to participate in the forum. BC Federation of Labour and the Canadian Labour Congress have made official endorsements. It’s also vital that many members and community activists from BC attend the forum and participate in this momentous opportunity to share voices from the West Coast. As a freelance media artist and community developer who focuses on migrant and climate justice, I do not receive the same opportunities as union members for financial support. I am not the only member of the committee in this position. THE ASKS (in priority order) Would you be able be a funding supporter? Please contact Derrick OKeefe or Nadia Santoro to arrange your donation. In-kind donations are also welcome. This Sunday, July 27, the BC Expansion Committee of the Peoples Social Forum will be hosting a picnic fundraiser. Donations of fresh produce and prepared foods would help us meet our fundraising objectives. Please contact Alison Bodine if you can help. Otherwise we would love to see you at the Peoples Picnic and Fundraiser for the On to Ottawa Caravan this Sunday at 1pm near the playground at Trout Lake. Need more info?
