I’m amazed that I missed for so long how the purpose of the OT - TopicsExpress

I’m amazed that I missed for so long how the purpose of the OT was entirely a testimony of Jesus. As we have noted before, Jesus said that the scriptures all testified of Him. And He emphasized this to the brothers on the road to Emmaus ‘expounding to them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself’ (Luke 24:27). He also said to the disciples in verse 44 ‘all things must be fulfilled that were spoken of in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms concerning Me.’ The point is that the Father put together a complete record of types, shadows and prophecies that all showed something about His Son. It all came out from Him and then He fulfilled everything written or shall I say He was manifested to be the ‘I Am ‘of all of it. When the Father finished with all the pointers and signs and pictures, then He sent the Real Person that had been testified to. This fulfillment, culminating with death and resurrection, was the completion of the purpose of God from the beginning of creation. I can tell you just from my own experience that missing this simple truth of a finished work concerning Jesus testified to in the OT, then Him coming fulfilling it all, does have consequences. If we do not see Jesus as the fulfillment of the types, pictures and words that make up ‘the volume of the book’ then our futile minds will come to other thoughts and imaginations about God’s purpose.
