I’m not a movie reviewer, but I hope you’ll mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 14th. A new documentary will be shown for one night only in theaters nationwide, and I strongly recommend you see it. It’s called “Unfair,” and it’s about the IRS. It traces how a federal agency that was created just to collect revenue has mutated into an all-powerful judge, jury and executioner, trampling the Bill of Rights, targeting Americans for their political beliefs and destroying people’s lives -- all in the name of enforcing an unintelligible tax code they don’t even understand themselves. Among the people you’ll meet are a couple who adopted a little girl from China. Sounds admirable. But because they took a deduction designed to encourage such adoptions, they were viciously harassed and audited for five years by the IRS. The dad summed it up perfectly: he said he thought he was saving his daughter from an oppressive government, not moving her to a different one. I’ve said for years that the solution is the Fair Tax, which eliminates not only the expense and headaches of tax filing, but the IRS itself. But a great first step would be to see this film and learn why it’s necessary and long overdue. You can find showing times and locations at UnfairMovie.
