I’m oddly excited about the Scottish independence vote today. It makes me anxious when there isn’t proper balance and parity in the world’s nations and borders. They should be divided by language and ethnic identity, and sometimes religion, in a similar way across countries. So, Scotland should be independent, and Ireland should be all one country. You just can’t have one being a country and not the other. It’s unbalanced. I also think Catalonia should probably be it’s own country, if Portugal is. Or both should be part of Spain. One or the other. And Belgium, please. It should be split immediately. But only if the French part becomes part of France and the Flemish part becomes part of the Netherlands. Neither part has a good enough reason to be joined with the other, but neither part has a good enough reason to be independent either. Oddly though, I think the Scandinavian countries should all be one country (not Finland, of course). It would at least make the football more competitive and balanced. On that reasoning though, probably Scotland and Ireland should just go ahead and form a union. It would be elegant. And then Wales could join, and we’d be done with the whole thing. Without a Celtic union, I think Wales is too small and does not have a sufficient independent identity to be its own country. Notwithstanding the opinions or feelings of the Welsh, mind you. I’m just saying to bring balance and parity to concept of nation in the world. Further, India should in no way be all one country. At the very least, the Indo-Aryan language regions and the Dravidian language regions need to be their own countries. It’s for balance. But probably it should be divided into as many countries as there are in Europe. And of course, Canada should be a province of Hungary. But that’s always been clear.
