I’m so pleased to hear about Friday’s court decision - TopicsExpress

I’m so pleased to hear about Friday’s court decision supporting Major Marcus Brauer in his battle with the Treasury Board. When we think of how much time and money this government wastes fighting against our men and women in uniform, it’s embarrassing. When we think of the needless grief and stress it causes for families like the Brauers, it’s disgusting. For years, Major Brauer has been fighting an injustice suffered not only by his family, but by almost 150 other military families who have dedicated their lives to Canada and our armed forces. Whether it’s deploying to a dangerous part of the world, or relocating on a moments notice, they’ve done whatever has been asked of them. So why did this government insist on ignoring its duty to them? In this case, it had already been agreed by the chief of defence staff, the military grievance board and the Canadian Forces ombudsman that Major Brauer was right and the Treasury Board was wrong. Nevertheless, the government went to great expense to try and prevent Major Brauer from getting the support to which he was so clearly entitled. Not many people have it in them to stand up and keep fighting the way Major Brauer and his family have done. They’ve won an important victory, not just for them but for many other families, and for that they deserve our gratitude and respect. I hope Treasury Board President Tony Clement will respect the courts, settle this matter quickly, and maybe even learn a lesson about doing the right thing from the start. I promise we’ll keep up the pressure as best we can until the matter is finally settled.
