I’m sorry this is so long, but I wanted to say this tonight. Normally I share pictures about where I’ve been during the day for you to enjoy. But tonight I want to use these pictures to make a point. This first picture is the store at Brent Town in southeastern Fauquier. It’s a typical mom and pop run by a young man who works there 5 days a week pretty much by himself. He sells the normal array of useful things people pick up when they’re in a hurry and he hopes one day to get a new gas station approved so he can sell fuel to commuters going to and from work each day. He has a dream… Next is a picture of a supporter of mine who owns an old home in Bristersburg, just a mile down the road from the Brent Town store. He really loves his home, keeps it up too. It was once a post office back in the 1830’s. He worries about what is happening to property rights in America and Federal overreach. He has a dream… Finally, there’s a picture of the mom and pop further south along Elk Run Road. They too provide basic services to folks in a very rural part of the county. They have a dream… In America and here in Virginia people have dreams. To be able to live free, have a job, provide for their families, and contribute to the possibility that their kids will have a brighter and better future than they had. They don’t want a hand out. They don’t want a government nanny. They don’t want to be told what to think, what to eat, how to do their job, live their lives, educate their kids, or what they can or can’t do with their own property. They want to be free as our Founders intended them to be. They simply want to be able to pursue their dreams without the heavy hand of government getting in their way. They worry about the erosion of their rights, and the ever-present labyrinth of bureaucracy and micro-regulations that interfere with their efforts to achieve their dream. That young man who wants to put in gas pumps? How easy do you think that will be with the EPA? That man who loves his property? Try putting in a pond on your land and see how easy that is or even protect yourself from utilities that want to traipse across your property. And the mom and pop that might want to expand and hire more people? Try that with Obamacare lurking nearby. Our government—at all levels—is simply too big, too overbearing, and too intrusive. Our Founders would recoil in horror to see what has happened. Look, I’m not talking about the core functions of government. I’m talking about how government has becomes an interfering behemoth in the lives of people. The time is now to speak up and take action. Elections matter. And if you want proof, just look how threatened establishment politicians feel about Ted Cruz speaking his convictions, doing what he said he would do when he was elected to the US Senate. Elections matter folks and here in Virginia—this year—they not only matter for us, but for the nation. Remember that on 5 November and if you want to help me go on to victory, go to my website scottforva/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=3 and help with a donation. We all have dreams and government should not be snuffing them out. And when I go back to Richmond and stand up for you, you can be sure I will fight for the Founding vision.
