I’ve always been a fan of mysteries, cop shows and suspense - TopicsExpress

I’ve always been a fan of mysteries, cop shows and suspense movies. But it’s not like the old days when I started reading Agatha Christie as a teenager. Last night I was watching “Body of Proof." Not only was the medical examiner held hostage, so was her daughter. Just about every main character has been stalked by a killer. It’s like they’re writing the same script over and over again. Over on TNT, an hour earlier, Rizzoli and Isles were recycling scripts, too. This was at least the third time a former lover became Rizzoli’s boss. That chick really gets around and she, too, has been stalked and almost killed by a serial killer – more than once. I miss some of the good old shows like “The Rockford Files” partly because it was well written and partly because Jim Garner looked a lot like my dad. I also miss “Banacek,” even though George Peppard looked nothing like my dad. And I know I probably go against every TV critic who ever put pen to paper, but I prefer Bill Cosby in “I Spy” over the older Cosby in “The Cosby Show.” As wild as the “Mission Impossible” movies are, they can’t top the TV show. It was more amazing then because I didn’t understand about the magic of Hollywood. Now, you can read about how they did all their magic tricks. The answer is not another version of “Law and Order” where Dick Wolf writes about a specialized unit that hunts down pickpockets. Instead give me more shows like “The Closer” and “Major Crimes.” Otherwise, I’ll have to dust off “Murder on the Orient Express.”
