The Womens History Month event will feature presentations and performance art highlighting “women throughout the centuries.” African American Hope Foye was an early activist in the civil rights movement, a friend and colleague of such notables as singers Paul Robeson and Pete Seeger, writer-composer Shirley Graham and Grahams husband, NAACP co-Founder and scholar W.E.B. DuBois. The subject of 2011 Pan African Film Festival Best Documentary Red Hope: The Blacklisting of Hope Foye, when “McCarthyite” persecution and blacklisting destroyed her career, she literally went into exile with the assistance of Graham and “Hollywood 10” member Albert Maltz.
