J. Franklin Smith (September 10, 1928 - January 12, 2014) J. Franklin Smith, 85 of Cumming, GA and formerly of North Augusta, SC passed away surrounded by family on January 12, 2014. Born in Savannah, GA, he is the son of the late Julian and Bertha Smith. Frank graduated from Savannah High, and spent 2 years at Armstrong College. While in Savannah he was employed by the US Corps of Engineers where he worked on the design of the Clark Hill Dam. In 1962, Mr Smith moved his family to North Augusta and was President of Hallmark Homes (Augusta, Ga) until 1974 when he decided to strike out on his own as a Homebuilder in the Aiken County area. He was a long time member of the Aiken County Home Builders association, and a well respected builder for over 36 years. He also served on the Aiken County Planning Commission for 20 years, where he served as Chairman for 2 years. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where he attended for 51 years, and a member of the Round Table Sunday School class. He is survived by his loving wife, Celeste P. Smith of Cumming, GA; daughter, Celeste S. Beasley of North Augusta, SC; son, David F. (Sandi) Smith of Johns Creek, GA; son, Russell P. (Susan) Smith of Matthews, NC; sister, Jeanette S. Galletta of Savannah, GA; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church.
