J & K AND JHARKAND ELECTION RESULTS UPDATE!!!! Jammu and Kashmir was split four ways on Tuesday as leads from all the 87 seats in the state showed the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) locked in a neck and neck race with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the two parties leading in 23 and 21 seats respectively. The incumbent National Conference was not doing bad with leads at 10.15 am showing the party ahead in 18 seats while its estranged coalition partner was leading in 16 seats. The performance of the two former allies has left the Jammu and Kashmir battle hanging down to the wire with prospects of a hung Assembly. The BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had campaigned vigorously in Jammu and Kashmir for his partys ambitious Mission 44+, where the party had won three of the six Lok Sabha seats in Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. A resurgent BJP is set to emerge as a major player in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since independence and is widely tipped to be the second largest party in the state. Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the BJP will form the government in both Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was trailing in one of two Assembly seats he contested in the Valley. He trailed in Sonawar constituency and led in Beerwah. Meanwhile, the BJP appeared set for victory in Jharkhand as counting of votes polled in Assembly polls put its candidates ahead in 41 of the 81 seats, which makes it comfortable close to the majority mark. Election Commission sources indicated a BJP sweep, with the incumbent Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leading in 21 constituencies, the Congress in five and two other parties in at least 14 seats at 10.15 am. Chief Minister Hemant Soren was leading from both the seats he contested. Former chief minister Madhu Koda, accused of corruption, was trailing, officials said. Another former chief Minister, Babulal Marandi, was leading in Dhanwar but trailing in Giridih.
