JB-Singapore taxi drivers seek toll exemption News Singapore-JB levy war 2014-08-12 16:25 JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Johor Bahru-Singapore taxi drivers have asked the government for exemption from the new toll rates at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building here. Chairman of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Taxi Terminal Management, Muhamad Najib Abdul Rahman, said they also urged the government to increase the Johor Bahru-Singapore taxi fares by between 20 and 50 per cent. Both the measures will help our taxi drivers to bear the increased cost of operations following the hike in toll rates at the CIQ as well as the increased cost of fuel and other costs, he told reporters at his office today. He said exempting the taxi drivers from paying the new toll rates at CIQ was justifiable as they did not use the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL), but used the Inner Ring Road. Muhamad Najib said that prior to the increase in the toll rates at the CIQ on Aug 1, taxi drivers only paid RM1.40 to go to Singapore and RM4.80 when entering Malaysia. Beginning Aug 1, the new toll rates for taxis going to Singapore was RM3.40, while it was RM6.80 to enter Malaysia, he said. He said he had been informed by his counterparts in Singapore that the authorities there would increase the toll at the Woodlands entry point for Singapore-Johor Bahru taxis. This will increase our operating costs further, he said. Muhamad Najib said talks had been held with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) on the proposal to increase the taxi fare to Singapore.
