JCC SEEKS JOB PACKAGE FOR UNEMPLOYED YOUTH Srinagar, June 4:A day after government fulfilled long pending demand of government employees by increasing retirement age from 50 to 60 years, Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), an amalgam of various trade unions, Wednesday demanded job package for unemployed youth of the State. “Some people with vested interests are spreading false information that increase in retirement age of employees from 58 to 60 will hinder chances of employment of unemployed youth,” senior employees leader and JCC convenor, Rouf Bhat, said while addressing a press conference here. Hailing the government decision to increase retirement age of its employees, he said, “Hike in retirement age is a well thought out process. It will not impact recruitment of new employees. Some people are trying to create confusion among the youth by spreading false information. Politics should not be mixed with our problems”. Stating that some elements are trying to create rift between youth and employees, Rouf said JCC strongly disapproves of such attempts. He said JCC won’t allow anybody to use its forum for advancing any illegal or political agenda. “Every year 8000 employees retire from government services. It provides ample job opportunities for the unemployed youth,” he said. The government yesterday increased retirement age from 58 to 60 years. The hike in retirement age will come effect from June 1, 2014 and it means that for next two years, no government employee will retire. JCC convenor asked government to come up with exclusive employment package for unemployed youth of the State, whose number is about 7 lakhs. “Unemployment is an issue and needs to be eradicated. The government should come up with a scheme to accommodate unemployed youth in government departments,” he said. Rouf advised government employees to revolutionize the work culture in offices. “I appeal all the government employees to work with honesty and sincerity. We have to change the working system in the offices. We should make efforts to institutionalize the cadre of employees”. Senior JCC leader and EJAC (Q) president Abdul Qayoom Wani it was only after dedication and hard battle fought by employees that government finally agreed to increase retirement age. He said workers union along with the increment in the retire age put forth 27charter of demands in the meeting with Chief Minister which would be finalized in a one month’s period. “The chief secretary has been directed by Chief Minister to study all other demands of the employees outside the ambit of Finance Department. He has been asked to submit recommendations within one month,” Wani said. He said their other demands include regularization of daily wagers, casual laborers (drawing regular salaries) and regularizing salary of casual labors along. Hailing government for increasing retirement age of employees, Wani thanked separatist leaders including Syed Ali Geelani for their moral support.
