JERMAINE PENNANT dedicated his match-winning goal at West Ham to manager Mark Hughes and the Stoke City fans. Pennant stepped off the bench to bag the only goal of yesterday’s game at the Boleyn Ground and seal the Potters’ third win in eight games. The Nottingham-born winger, who fired home an 82nd minute free-kick to floor the Hammers, looked to be heading out of the Britannia Stadium at the end of last season when his contract expired and he was released. Hughes resurrected Pennant’s Stoke career by offering him a one-year contract and the 30-year-old is relishing the new lease of life the Welshman has given him. “I’m grateful to the Club, the gaffer and the fans for the faith they’ve shown in me,” he told stokecityfc. “It’s funny in football how things can turn; I’m now enjoying my football so much and the goal against West Ham means so much to me. “I dedicate the goal to the fans because they have always been brilliant towards me and the rest of the boys. “It was great to score it at the end where the fans were – it was a fantastic feeling to run over to them after scoring the goal.” Pennant felt victory in East London was the least Stoke deserved after producing a dominant display, insisting: “The team did really; played some great football. “It’s amazing how much we’ve come on this season – we’re enjoying it as players and it sounds as though the fans are enjoying it as well. “We dominated against West Ham all the way through and if we hadn’t come away with all three points it would have been a scandal really.” (Marc) stokecityfc/news/article/jermaines-gratitude-1028363.aspx
