JERSEY CITYS SALT SILOS EMPTY This should never happen no matter how many snowstorms. The JCIA has varied duties from environmental compliance to street cleaning. Most would agree the most important responsibility the JCIA is charged with is snow plowing and clearing our highways and streets. One needs only to perform a cursory investigation of overtime costs at the authority to ascertain this fact. That being said, who allowed this very dangerous and embarrassing situation to occur? The Salt Institute, a non-profit trade institute, issued a statement Thursday saying salt “is in abundant supply” but that the severe winter has left some cities and states with low inventories. “While many agencies try to have enough salt on hand in the fall to get them through an entire winter, recent weather is forcing many to order again midseason, which is not an ideal situation as there is a lead time for delivery,” president Lori Roman said. Throughout the years, how well a city responds to a snowstorm can define a Mayors resolve and leadership abilities. With Jersey Citys inventory of road salt completely depleted, our roads are relatively clear. Kudos goes to Mayor Fulop and his team.
