They had no pity for Jesus who was going through unbearable suffering at that moment. How unaware they were that he was quite capable of saving himself! Just one word, and God would have sent a host of angels to come to his aid. Yet the son of God elected to be handed over as a criminal, to be tortured and crucified, to remain hanging on the cross, eventually to die ~ so that you and I could have eternal life, His blood flowed for us, so that our sins could be payed for, once and for all.
