JET’S SCHEIFELE’S INJURY The Jets were silent on Scheifele’s condition, Monday. Scheifele went down midway through Sunday’s second period when teammate Jacob Trouba inadvertently belted Minnesota’s Erik Haula into him. Haula fell onto Scheifele’s right foot, sending the Jets’ centre limping to the dressing room in obvious pain. If Scheifele is on the shelf for an extended period, the Jets’ depth will be tested, and if that sounds familiar, it’s because this team has been down this same bumpy road before. I’ll take you back to early March of last season. The Jets were on a pretty good run at the time, with just two regulation or overtime losses in eight games, a 7-2-2 mark in their last 11. Without him, the Jets fell like a stone in the standings, failing to record a single win in their next five games, just one in their next seven and two in their next 10. Who is going to take his spot, will it be the fans least favourite centre, Thorburn, or fan favourite Perreault? Will the third and fourth lines start scoring, will the top lines start scoring? The Jets’ new identity, the Paul Maurice way, defend your own hill, and the goals will come, so they keep saying.
