JHELUM FOOTBALL CLUB, BONAMSAR WINS BADAMI BAGH CANTONMENT SOCCER LEAGUE Srinagar, Nov 30 The Badami Bagh Cantonment Soccer League concluded today with the finals played between Sonowar Soccer Club and Jhelum Football Club, Bonamsar. Brig Vinay Bahl, President, Cantonment Board and the Deputy GOC of Srinagar Sub Area was the chief guest at the Event. The Tournament which was played between the teams of the Mohallas of Badami Bagh Cantonment from 23 November evoked great enthusiasm amongst the football buffs. The Jhelum Football Club, Bonamsar won the finals of the prestigious tournament’s inaugural edition by defeating XXX Soccer Club with a score of 1-0 in a fiercely contested and competitive match. The conduct of the finals of the league was a perfect ending to a series of 11 electrifying matches between 10 teams representing various Mohallas of the cantonment. The teams which participated in the Tournament were Batwara Tigers, Jhelum Football Club from Bonamsar, Yatoo Mohalla Football Club, Indiranagar Football Club, Iqbal United Football Club, Shining Star Football Club from Gandabal, Shivpora Football Club, Sonowar Soccer Club, Palpora Sonowar Football Club and Rose Colony Warriors. This Inaugural Tournament organized under the aegis of Badami Bagh Cantonment Board, has proved to be an extremely popular sporting event and is expected to be keenly awaited in future. The matches were conducted on league and knockout basis and provided an exciting opportunity to the youth to test their talent for sports. The tournament was inaugurated on 23 Nov 2014 by Brig Vinay Bahl, President, Badami Bagh Cantonment Board. The participating teams were provided with sporting kit by the Board, complete with team jerseys which added a dash of colour to the green outfield. During the closing ceremony and prize distribution, Brig Vinay Bahl, President, Badami Bagh Cantonment Board commended the efforts of the teams and the active participation of the audience who cheered indefatigably for their favourite teams with fervor and zeal. He said that such sporting events bring people closer and are instrumental in fostering the spirit of brotherhood. He further reiterated that this league was part of an ongoing series of events to be organized for promotion of sports activities. He exhorted the teams to actively participate in tournaments to be organized in the future and thanked the audience for their unflinching support to the teams and officials during the conduct of the tournament. The President also thanked the Jammu & Kashmir Football Association for providing vital assistance in the form of technicians, referees and guidance for the matches and also appreciated the efforts of Shri Shreyas Patel, CEO, Badami Bagh Cantonment Board for smooth conduct of the event.
